Gram flour is made by grinding chickpea (also called Bengal gram or garbanzo beans) which is a type of pulse flour. It is a part of the staple diet of Indian cuisine. You can grind the chickpea after roasting it.
Roasted chickpeas give a good flavour after grinding while the raw chickpeas taste slightly bitter after grinding.

India produces 90 million tons of chickpeas every year. Also, India is the greatest producer and exporter of peas in the world. These are extensively used in Asian cuisine. In the 18th century Europe, instead of coffee roasted chickpeas were used. Leaves of chickpeas are used while making blue dyes.
The green and dry stems of chickpeas which are of no use and later discarded are then used as fodder for animals. It is an annual plant which completes its life cycle in one complete year.

Gram flour has a high content of carbohydrates and protein. It contains the same nutritional value as chickpeas. It doesn’t have any gluten and contains a higher dose of fibre. That is why it also aids weight loss. The stems, leaves and pods of chickpeas contain fluid that has oxalic and malic acids which contain aphrodisiac properties.
